We are still being formed

I love music and practically have it playing all day long. Songs speak to me and when I really listen to the words of a song, it can even bring me to tears. This is the first song of many I want to share my thoughts on and what it means to me.

"Keep Making Me" by Sidewalk Prophets always makes me stop and really focus on the words.

The first verse says, "Make me broken, So I can be healed, 'Cause I'm so calloused, And now I can't feel, I want to run to You, With heart wide open, Make me broken, Make me empty, So I can be filled, 'Cause I'm still holding, Onto my will, And I'm completed, When you are with me, Make me empty."

These words are very powerful to me. I think to myself, why would we ask to be made broken or empty? There are times in our lives when we feel that we cannot move on until we have completely surrendered and been made broken. When we are facing times of trial, God wants us to rely fully on Him and in the heat of a trial we do not always want to do that.

I love the part that says "cause I'm still holding onto my will." How many times do we want it our way and not listen to God's will for our lives. We try to intervene and it never works out the way we want it. Growing up there was a show on the Disney Channel called "That's So Raven." Raven was a teenager who would see visions of the future, she would see something bad happen and try to prevent it. In trying to prevent it, she actually made the vision become real when she should not have intervened in the first place. This is how we can be with God. We try to control the outcome and in doing so cause more problems for ourselves, when we should have prayed and listened to where/what God was calling us to.

We will never be perfect and are not made to be perfect, since we are born into a world of sin. But we can strive everyday to follow God's will and allow Him to keep making us into the person He wants us to be.

Matthew 11:28-30 states, "28Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” When we are at a point where we need to be made broken and empty, we need to surrender any burdens that we may have in order to be given rest. I always picture placing my burden at the foot of the cross and giving whatever it may be up to God.

This concept is definitely not easy and I think that is why every time I hear this song I get emotional, because there is always something that seems to be on my mind.
